Elk herds Galore. Please drive carefully. Many animals on the road. Help protect the elk from the local farmers that want to get rid of them.

We hiked all the way to Tomales Point and saw several herds of elks throughout the hike. The weather on Nov 1 changed quickly from chilly to very warm a few times. Extra layer is highly recommended. The hike is 10 miles out and back with about 1,100' total elevation gain. Very doable with kids. The kids loved it!

Just know that it's 3 mile hike from where you park (Pierce Point Ranch), it contains some steep slopes up and down, and has some incredible views, but it's totally worth the effort. This was my third New Year in a row and hope to keep going for the next couple decades. The Tule Elk are what originally drew me to this place, but the views kept me coming back.

There are so many of them out there, you could be there anytime. Pick the time you like best for lighting and you are unlikely to be disappointed.
