Gorgeous way to spend a sunny day relaxing. So much going on and so much diversity. People eating lunch, dancing, yoga, card games, or casual drinks (though not sure what the laws are so be careful). Free spirited area and cool if you want a non touristy spot in the city. A local recommended to us so you know it's legit. Would suggest grabbing a blanket and snack and relaxing there for an hour or two! Near Castro neighborhood which was nice and not a far walk to Alamo park where you can see the painted ladies (full house backdrop). Worth checking out if you have time!

Cool little place to visit. It makes you feel bad how small and crammed the animals must have been, but fun to explore. If you go upwards on behind the cages you can find a steep small road. Its a good little hike that will make you sweat.

Yes you can. Theirs plenty of space.
It's an old abandoned zoo, there's no more animals other than whatever wildlife lives there, people use it as a hiking trail now
Yes there is.
No cost for the OLD LA Zoo, just the ruins of the old facility. Here's the prices for the current Los Angeles Zoo. https://www.lazoo.org/
Yes you can but you need to bring your own stuff.
Yes it is free. No, it doesn't fall inside the new zoo, it is part of the old zoo, which is abandoned. You can walk through the old lion, monkey, etc... pens.
