Amazing campground and surrounding nature area. Good beach access after a nice walk through the forest (waxmrytle trail) and lots of wildlife. We saw seals and snowy plovers and deer and a fox and lots of cool birds. That part of the beach is the protected area for the snowy plover breeding season, so no ATVs or busyness there. The other half of the beach had ATVs, but not so many probably because it was the end of the season. Bathrooms were pretty clean (flush) and mobile signal was enough to send a WhatsApp message but not search on the internet. Campsites were pretty small but had bushes surrounding them so they still felt private.

The campground itself is fine - the problem is the noise! From early morning until late at night the quadholes race around the dunes that border the campground. There is a posted limit of 93 db but obviously that limit is NOT enforced. If you're familiar with what a 1000 horsepower Baja race car sounds like then imagine camping right next the race course! Maybe if you could see the race cars it would be entertaining - but in this case you cannot see the source of the noise - you can only suffer it!

Great campground if you’re there to use the dunes, not so great if you’re looking for a quiet place to chill in nature with coast access. No showers, one of the two stalls in the women’s bathroom wasn’t working, and the bathroom overall wasn’t very clean. There’s no ranger station and the volunteer host was off duty at ~630 pm when we arrived, and all the next morning every time I walked by so I couldn’t ask questions, and the only map of the area I found posted near a trail head is so sun bleached that it’s hard to tell what is where. We had good privacy with the hedges, but the sounds from the dunes was like NASCAR until 10pm, and then quite a few folks around the campground were having a good ole time after that. (Which is totally fine, they were having fun! It just wasn’t for us.) Was totally fine for a single night, but we wouldn’t plan to stay here again—Honeyman was much nicer!

This is a great campground as it allows ATV’s in, but not allowed to be driven in the campground. (The other camps around do) This gives you the both of best worlds if you are like us who have done the ATV’s in the past but are now done. Our space was #25, close to restrooms, water and trash. The campground is nice for bike riding and nice walks around the lagoon. Quiet mornings listening to all the different birds, we even saw an otter in the early morning. It’s just a short drive to Florence, and had a great walk around Old Town. So go have yourself a great time!

We were there a couple of weeks ago. The gate to the campground was locked and there is a sign that says Reservation Only.
