This was our first visit to this wonderful site. The extant buildings are well preserved and very interesting. We really got a sense of why people were attracted to Kansas. There is a sense too of warmth and well-being that is still present. The pictures are from two locations: the National Park Service site for the TGNP and the Schrumpf View Point south of the preserved area. Both are interesting and worth your time. A second or third visit is needed to hike the trails that begin at the preserved farm site. It was 100F the day we visited so plan accordingly. Approximately 12 miles north in Council Grove there is a brewery, River Bank Brewing. After a long, dusty time on the road it's just the thing.

Nice stop …. Unique and interesting 1880 ranch house, ranch, and property … well set up and maintained … friendly ranger gave us a nice overview … nice video in the barn …. The barn is also unique 2 story and well set up to see how it might have run … featuring antique farm equipment … also a fun roping activity for kids and adults …. 🤠 beautiful peaceful place ….

Great place. There is hiking trail of gravel road of 1 mile (not a loop). The ranger will aware you for snakes sleeping on the trail. So beaware of that. No fees involved. I also visited several historical houses which is part of this place. You can see old day farming stuffs, gas station, etc. Must see the Ranch house - One can learn how the foods were stored in the winter. Outside the ranch house you will see how the toilets were made out of wood (yak!). There is also nearby school house at a 5 min driving distance.

Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is a beautiful place with over 40 miles of trails. The trails are well marked and are either gravel road or mowed paths depending on the trail you take. The preserve has many things to see such and wildflowers, grasses, bison and other wildlife, and the Spring Hill Ranch House and Barn. The visitor center has informative displays and a nice little shop to by books and souvenirs.

They have a number you can call and talk to the rangers. They are very nice.
Just the visitors center and other buildings actually close. The Preserve is open 24 hours a day 365 a year.
You can find prairie info on their website
I don't know about the bus tours, but the house will have open hours through the end of the year. I was told the house is closing for repairs for a year and a half in 2020.
Visitors center is nice. Main path goes to the Windmill pasture and is where the Buffalo roam, literally. It does go uphill, but the path is wide with packed gravel. I would guess roughly a half mile to the entrance of the pasture. There is an old school house and a couple of other older buildings, closer to the visitor center, less than a quarter mile, that does have a road going to them. It's all free so worst is your out travel time to get there.
Not knowing...I only passes through
There's no horse riding in the bison pens, but I believe you can outside the fenced area.
I'm not sure what tour you are referring to. I do know you can tour/walk the prairie on your own free of charge.
