Whenever I hear the Life Flight helicopter go over our house any time of day or night I relive my emergency treatment at MDI Hospital and am thankful for it being close at hand and Mary driving me to the ER for intervention. Travel to an off island facility could have had a different outcome. My blood test results were off the chart and indicated bilateral pulmonary emboli. Knowing personnel in the ER was also very reassuring and the lab test results were explained so we both understood them. I recovered within a three day stay upstairs and was released to resume the rest of my of life. The staff continued to treat others with their usual care and professionalism. I wasn't the only one in the ER that Sunday afternoon.

Had a colonoscopy this morning. Not the greatest thing in the world but the MDI Hospital staff made the experience as pleasant as possible. Nursing staff and Dr. Perme were top notch. Thank you.

HORRIBLE experience at this hospital during Emergency room visit and now with Billing and Insurance. Avoid this hospital and go somewhere else. I'm currently being asked to pay over 11k for two emergency room visits. Between the billing manager not calling me back, mixed messages between staff members in the billing and financial assistance department, and the hospital refusing to provide transparency or clarity in what was needed from me, I am now forced to pay back a hospital bill for the amount that I made in my gross salary from this past year. I'm a professional dancer and athlete and have had plenty of run in's with sprained muscles and other musculoskeletal issues. In February of 2021 I sprained a muscle in my lower abdominals and was unable to walk, stand, sit, or lay down without being in excruciating pain. Upon arrival to the MDI Emergency room, I was NOT offered any assistance with walking even though I was sobbing and in complete distress. After being glanced over by the Emergency room doctors, they ordered a number of tests to rule out appendicitis and kidney stones. I agreed to a CAT scan and they found nothing as I had predicted. I kept asking the doctor for a muscle relaxer because I knew my pain was coming from severe muscle spasms. With muscle relaxers I would have been able to incorporate more movement and physical therapy exercises to help reduce pain and start the healing process. I was denied help and ignored. They said there was nothing they could do for me and sent me home. I left in the same amount of pain as when I arrived and they did not even offer me assistance like a wheel chair or physical support. I walked out of the front door clutching the walls while staff simply looked on. On March 1 my pain began to increase and my mobility and range of movement continued to decrease. I could not get to a toilet, eat, sleep, drink, walk, sit, lay down, etc and daily life became impossible so I returned to the ER. Another doctor saw me and decided to order the same tests, which is not what any intelligent doctor would do. They ordered the same tests and provided absolutely nothing. They again refused to provide muscle relaxers or steroids, which would have started to improve my symptoms immediately. I was left in the room for so long that I removed my own IV and again walked out of the hospital without a blink of an eye. I returned home in extreme pain, still unable to walk, stand, or sit. For 10 days I was unable to get food, water, use the restroom without assistance, sleep, or work. I am a Pilates instructor and a professional dancer. I am well versed in anatomy and musculoskeletal issues. The fact that this hospital and its staff ignored my knowledge and denied my needs showed me that they DO NOT HAVE TIME TO CARE OR LISTEN TO THEIR PATIENT. DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS FACILITY. I was finally able to recover and receive adequate care from an orthopedic doctor who provided me a steroid pack. Within one day I was able to move more, and therefore do physical therapy exercises that would continue to help with my mobility and recovery. I want everyone to know that it is almost a year later and I am still dealing with this bill.

We had a wonderful experience at MDI hospital due to the expertise of Dr. Good. He was extremely knowledgeable and provided our daughter a high level of care in a small town hospital setting. We are thankful that he was available in our time of need.

Questions & Answers

I am finding it difficult to get any information regarding an invoice that I was sent in early May. I do not like the new billing set up. Is there anyone local that I can talk to at the hospital about my invoice as I feel it is not mine. Thanks.

Hi Janice, I’m sorry to hear that your are having issues with an invoice and our new system. Please contact Artem at 288-5082 ext. 1202 for assistance.

Why is a Physicians Assistant in your emergency room, Michelle Renee Kaplan, listed as an “MD” on WebMD when she’s not and why is she still employed after going to the trump rally without a mask and then immediately working a long shift at MDI?
