I have 2 special needs kitties that have been patients at Ethos Veterinary Specialty since we moved from Chicago in 2019. I thought I was getting great care here up until now. After complications from a routine procedure, I had to rush my cat to the ER. Two weeks and several days of hospitalization later, he passed away. What happened or rather didn’t happen next is the problem. After he passed I heard nothing from the clinic. His two main clinicians, Dr Leuin and Dr Miller didn’t even bother to call me or send me an email acknowledging my loss. He was their patient for over 2 years and absolutely NOTHING. How cold. In fact nobody at Ethos reached out to me for anything other than the bill. They sent a survey asking about my experience where I expressed all of these issues and still nobody reached out. I doubt if it was even read. Clearly my $$ is more important than the life of my pet. In the meantime I have another cat who needs an IM specialist and I’m torn what to do. It’s in his best interest to stay with his care team but I absolutely hate the idea of having to return to this clinic. If you are a new patient and thinking about this practice, please go elsewhere where they actually care about your pet.

We were there with our Irish Wolfhound who needed a cardiologist. They were kind and thorough. Our IW Bailey was at home in the lobby and enjoyed all the sounds and activities going on

We had to rush our 15 year old lab mix in at nearly 2 am when she had a seizure. She had never had one before and to say it was upsetting would be an understatement. From the moment we walked through the door the staff was wonderful. We came to the decision to let our beautiful, wonderful, patient, loving girl be put down. It was so difficult to say goodbye. I wish I could recall the names of all the people who helped us that day. The woman at the front desk was so nice and kind. The vet techs were so sweet to my dog. The vet was so compassionate and took the time to explain things to us. She never rushed and made us feel like our dog was her priority even though I know she was busy. They treated us and our dog with the utmost respect. We really appreciate all that you did for us and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I don't write reviews very often, but this time it's needed. I lost my very best friend 10 days ago. This hospital took him right in. It was his heart. Though I don't remember the doctor, the entire staff was so so comforting. The doctor listened to me ugly cry and paused and took the time to explain our options. He had been fine just a few hours earlier. He could barely stand when we got there. She came out to explain everything step by step and gave us options and realistic outcomes. We made the hard decision and she kept her hand on my shoulder while I lost it. My husband says the room was beautiful for the last goodbyes and everything was calm and warm and comfortable. So much so, that we are looking to make this our primary vet for our remaining pitbulls. In such a horrible time, this service was something that gave us some peace. Thank you so much to all the staff that helped our Duke that night. Though I couldn't tell you at the time, thank you for the compassion to help my best friend cross over the Rainbow Bridge. Compassion is rare these days, I would recommend Veterinary Specialty Hospital to everyone in North County.

During this pandemic, can I be with my cat? I may be needing to putting him to sleep soon. He has hip problems and is 18 years old. No need for surgery.

They will let you in to be with your cat, if you have to euthanize him. We just had to put my Mom's 15-year old Chihuahua to sleep there on 1/3/2021. They were very caring and understanding. However, I also thought that service, like all their services, was expensive. If cost is a concern at all and you know your cat will need to be euthanized, I suggest you call a few places and find out their policies and prices. Our regular vet is ABC Hospital in San Marcos. Also, Dr. Ichord in San Marcos is very caring and very good. I personally had to put my cat and dog down there on the same weekend. It was a traumatic and unexpected situation that they handled in a very caring and gentle manner. Any of these 3 places are very good. Cost is probably the only difference between them. Also, there are mobile services, so your pet can remain comfortably at home. I don't know their cost, but I like that idea if you know ahead of time that it's your pet's time. Much sympathy to you.

We do have shadows (most often people hoping to become a veterinarian or veterinary technician and wanting to gain some extra experience). You must be 18 years or older. Feel free to give us a call during daytime hours with further questions or inquiries.
