I was looking for a photographer to take headshot photos for my teen daughter. And I am so happy we went with Rafael. First off, he studio is clean, comfort and safe. He creates a wonderful environment so that you look relaxed and at your best. We took a few photos outside and the location of his studio is in beautiful Montrose. Rafael listened to our requirements and he was able to translate them into clean, sharp photos. There were many options for background and colors it was amazing. All photos were so nicely captured that it was hard to narrow down to the final photos that we needed. I highly and truthfully recommend Rafael at the Light Committee.

Highly recommend this place! I just got my real estate headshots taken and I’m so happy with my results! My experience with Rafael was great! He welcomed me with water and let me make myself comfortable. There was a cute vanity mirror where I was able to retouch my makeup. During our shoot, he would even hold up a mirror for me to fix any hair that looked out of place. It was very thoughtful. What I liked best during our shoot was that we would look at how the photos came out every couple shots to see what worked and what didn’t work. We were able to work on perfecting certain angles and hair position that looked great. Rafael made sure I left with photos I was happy with and I was! I will definitely be coming back again for more shoots in the near future! Thank you!

Rafael is amazing!!! He's very professional, knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. He's without a doubt the best photographer that I've ever seen. I'm super happy with the shots.

I needed a professional headshot for a new job, and was able to easily book an appointment online. I was not looking forward to having to get my pictures taken, but Rafael made the experience fast, easy, and painless! He provided the proofs quickly, and retouches were done right away as requested. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Questions & Answers

In addition to studio sessions, do you also offer outdoor or natural light headshot sessions?

The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020

Yes. For cityscape shots we shoot in the downtown Glendale area. We will likely meet at a pre-agreed location on N. Brand Blvd. We will then walk around and take shots wherever the setting seems appropriate for a headshot. For a garden / nature setting, we will meet at a garden or other nature-like area in the Glendale area. It will likely have plenty of different nature looks - greenery, flowers, trees, etc. Custom locations are an option for an additional fee.

Do you retouch the photos?

The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020
The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020

Yes, for the photos you select based on the session chosen and paid for. There are some experts that claim retouching is bad. This is simply untrue. Retouching allows several fixes to things in a photo that could have conveniently been prevented anyway in the real world. This further makes you look good. For example, it is common to have some dark shadows under your eyes that can vary by day. Retouching will minimize or remove this. Same thing for red eye, acne, stray or fly-away hair, some lint on a shirt, and so on. What is usually not retouched are things that are your essence (unless requested), such as a mole, scar, etc. Retouching also includes cropping to standard 8x10 inch for headshots. The remaining photos from a session not chosen for retouching are provided too but, they are not retouched. Some basic image corrections might be applied to them too.

Do you offer same-day headshot services?

The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020
The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020

It is possible, depending on the day’s workload. Please inquire as early as possible in the day. There is a starting additional fee, on top of regular session fees, of $25 per photo for same-day service. We will do a session and then together sit for 10-15 minutes to select the photo(s) you want retouched. You can then leave the same day with the photos on a USB memory stick or with a download link emailed to you.

Do you accept walk-in appointments?

Do you provide a hair and makeup stylist?

The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020
The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020

You should come hair and makeup ready for your session. Some people like to bring a stylist with them. There is an additional fee for this of $50 per 30 minutes of added time, as doing styling on-site takes up notable studio time. If you need recommendations for a stylist, the studio has a short list of them that previous clients used and said they were satisfied with them. Please feel free to inquire about it. Rates do not include any type of stylist.

How do I receive the photos?

After the session is complete, and usually within 1-2 business days, an online gallery will be provided via email to select the photo(s) you want for retouching. Around another 1-2 business days after you have submitted your selections, you will be emailed a download link where all the photos can be downloaded.

Each session defines a number of retouches that you get. But, you also receive all other usable photos from the session. These extra photos are just not retouched and are provided as JPEG files of approximately 1,600 dpi in size. For the retouches, you'll get JPEG versions too but, you'll also get high-resolution print-quality PNG files - just in case you need to print an 8x10" headshot and also to save as your source high quality file.

The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020
The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020

Currently, headshot rates start at $125 for one look and retouched photo. We'll take many photos during a session and you receive those too as extra shots, just without retouching. To make your retouch selection you will receive a web gallery link. When the photos are ready you receive a download link. Two looks / retouches is $150, three are $175, etc.

How many looks do I get with my headshot session?

The Light Committee | Aug 20, 2019
The Light Committee | Aug 19, 2020

Let's first define a "look" as a quick change in outfit, pulling your hair up or letting it down, taking off or putting on glasses - basically anything you can do to change your appearance in five minutes or less. Session and rates are based on how many looks or retouches you want. So, one look and retouch is $125, two looks and retouches is $150, and so on.
