While on a recent trip to Maine my wife and I were looking for a short hike to break up the drive. Fore River Sanctuary was a great pick with lots of trails and lots to see. We happened to go after it had been raining for the last two day so the trails were a little muddy. The trails were well maintained and still very passable. If we were in the area I would definitely like to explore more.

.."..A Sunday afternoon spent checking- out those places that are right there in your own backyard ; you never took time to enjoy before." The Fore River Sanctuary is one of those places for me...My Mother showed me one day back in 2005 how to enter on the grounds of the Stroud Water Crossing Building's parking - lot She had been so enamored with this particular trail she would take ,what seemed to be -every single of these occasions to encourage me to Take it in sometime soon,As we passed it on our way to or from where ever. Today as I passed through this area early morning ; I could hear her voice again excitedly exclaiming what a trail to explore ,right here in our city.Although she's been gone since late summer 2007, Her effort had not been wasted : I took my Granddaughter with me... It was everything she told me... I only wish I had done this sooner,rather Than later. I would have been able to Tell her about it then.. instead of just wishing I could.. Don't wait : take this hike - asap
