It's always a nice time at the Sandy Hut. I love this place, I don't go often but when people ask for suggestions it's towards the top of my list as one of my favorite "Old Portland" haunts. The bar staff are super nice which is a nice breather from the uppity hispter bartenders around town. The food is good and the crowd is pretty easy going.

Very rude bar man. Gets very snippy when asking their favorite cocktail so I can get that made to order. Then annoyingly and aggressively getting told "we're a dive bar" when asking if they have ingredients explicitly after the big hairy guy says if "we have the ingredients to make the cocktail". What bartender doesn't have a favorite cocktail? Then there's the patrons themselves, so very obnoxious and loud. Couldn't even hear my friend while sitting outside. Couldn't even corral the party to their party section which is on the other side of the building, nor ask them to quite down a little out of courtesy to others. Would rate 0/5 if I could. Highly do not recommend ever visiting.

Not at all sandy, but still a great dive. Awesome interesting characters, and generally a good ol'' time. Hit it up of you like the dive scene, take a pass if all you drink is cocktails served up

Considering food did not appear to be their focus, it was very good as bar food goes. A little salty, but I wasn't drinking much (one glass of whiskey) so maybe that saltiness would have come in handy if I'd had 4-6 drinks instead. The staff were very nice and other customers were very good at self-organization around who was next on the pool table, so the place attracts a pretty good crowd around 8:30-9:45pm on Thursday from my experience when my girl friend and I went.

All bars in Oregon have to serve food while they are open. Last call is 230
They have a small tv on the bar, but it is doubtful they will have the sound on.
No but there is a Chuck-E-Cheese on Powell and 92nd Alabama is kid appropriate for dinner
