Fantastic place. Seems amazingly underappreciated -in light of it being in view of the only nesting pelicans we have in illinois. Need good binocs or a spotting scope but its quite a galapagos type of spectacle -all the bird life!

Used to camp there as a kid. Used to be great fishing off shore. If you plan on taking a boat out be warned its not deep at all. Some spots less then a foot and tons of green growing out there

Although there's a decent amount of mosquitoes right at dusk this campground is great because it is right on what has to be one of the widest part of the Mississippi I'm told over three miles wide and to watch the sunrise here is absolutely spectacular. You go down a big hill on a dirt road across true seeming Wilderness to get to it but it definitely feels like you are in the middle of nowhere and yet you're only a couple miles from town and a few diners. For only $12 a night you can meet and talk with the campground host who lives in a solar-powered off-the-grid RV
