Such a healing oasis. If you need a refuge, this is the place to go.

Not for experienced meditators. I visited here several years ago, on my way through town, and the staff seemed confused when I asked about a nice quiet place to meditate. They were more interested in selling me a class than allowing me to experience stillness and presence (for free) on their property. I sat on a bench there for about an hour in deep meditation, and nobody forced me to leave, so I am appreciative. Spent a lovely New Year’s Day here on a retreat with Sylvia - a long term teacher at spirit rock. What a tranquil place with lovely hills. The retreat was absolutely amazing with kind teaching from Sylvia and classic Bach Cello and drum tunes from her friends. Surreal experience. I am grateful that I could spent the New Year’s Day here. I wish more people could experience Dhamma talks / retreats here - as the fees are high. But they do offer scholarships / volunteer opportunities to make it more accessible for everyone.

I spent NYE in community with strangers who wished to set intentions for the new year and release all that does not serve them. I felt at home here and definitely wish to return again and again.

I think he went to Insight meditation society in Massachusetts
Its a path of enlightenment, connection, & compassion.
Yes. There is a daylong this Sunday with Erin Selover designed for newcomers.
Easy. Go online and select your daylong. If you volunteer that day- it's free.
The residential area is off limits during random visits (it's held in silence). You can visit the gift shop & hike the area behind the gift shop (hills). Best way to experience first time visit is to attend a daylongs event. If you volunteer that day- it's free. Check out website for info. P.s. there is a Women of Color one day retreat each year in early February with a sweat lodge option.
When you click on the registration link it will take you to a page that will show the range of fees. I think all of them are on some kind of a scale.
There is an opportunity to volunteer for a daylong which allows you attend that event for free. Also all retreats offer a few volunteer spots that allow you attend the retreat free by helping out only a few hours a day. Check website for details.
Spirit Rock offers silent meditation Retreats varying in duration from 3 days to 2 months. Similar to monastic life but not exactly. Unlike a traditional Temple, there are fees to use the facilities but the fees are on a sliding scale and sometimes scholarships are available.
