I absolutely loved this hike. It has a very steep rough paved trail up to the top then an easy walk down to the tunnel. The stairs back up to the top are long but give a beautiful view of the marshy area. Dog friendly and he loved it!

Good place to spend 2 to 3 hours. It has a great history. Trails are short in total 1 to 1.3 miles. This place is not maintained well which is evident seeing parking lot. I visited during fall, so mosquitos were my company in the trial walk. Part from this, the place is calm and Limited camping places that needs reservation. If you are travelling long to visit this place, I would suggest to skip. I will not return to this place.

Great view and breezy on top of shot tower. Maps are posted throughout park and trails are nicely paved. It only took about 5 minutes of walking from the parking lot to the tower. There are a handful of flies in the shot tower building, but not enough to scare me away! Lots of great educational information in the smelter-house. The trail to the tunnel was blocked off due to repairs (July 2021). Only wish there was an electronic kiosk for a parking pass. I had to fill out a paper envelope and pay with cash/check.

Hike up to the tower was just a little steep, but really not too bad. View was nice and a good bit of history is available to read and watch in the house itself. Took a separate trail on the way back down which had some gravel that was a bit loose. Overall, good afternoon spot!

I was just there and yes, there is ample parking in the picnic/day use area, which likely serves as overflow parking for the campground. All WI state parks require a pass but it couldn't hurt to contact the park (which may mean calling Governor Dodge) to check on overnight parking. I just posted a photo of the park map.
No there are no cabins for rent there. But there's some pretty nice little campsites
Yes, 11 sites first come, first serve.
Fyi No flushable toliets- only vaults
Both the East and West towers look like they have been rebuilt with new treated wood. I took my young kids ages 3 to 10 and they had no trouble with the stairs. Both towers are very stable.
Yes there is camping there.
