Hotel is a slightly nicer than average hotel. Lobby is new, the rooms are in need of updates. However, the big knock on this hotel is the dance club next door. I am writing this review at 1:34AM because I cannot sleep due to the VERY LOUD MUSIC that cannot be avoided. While the hotel provides earplugs, they are of little use and offer little besides a window-dressing solution. If you are in town to party deep into the night, it’s great. If you need to be up at 7AM the following morning as I do, it’s not a big benefit. I will personally never stay at this hotel ever again, but you may enjoy it.

I chose this hotel because it was affordable and close to everything downtown. I wasn’t expecting Raleigh to be such a party city though! The hotel is close to big clubs. it wasn’t too loud, but maybe would be for light sleepers. The room was much larger than expected. The room and common areas were clean and well maintained.

If you are looking for a hotel that is surrounded by the bars, restaurants, and all of the action...this is the place to be. The bonus is that the hotel was very clean and had a good breakfast. If you want peace and quiet, I would suggest booking your hotel somewhere else. Loud music is bumping until 2 am. I went to Raliegh to have a good time so it was the perfect hotel for me.

I want to preface everything else I'm about to say with this: The staff was friendly and professional. None of this is their fault. They were wonderful. If you are a business traveler, do not stay here. Full stop. When I checked in, I was asked if I wanted a quiet side room. I was a little confused but said quiet side. Then I asked about the bucket of earplugs at the front desk, and the attendant said, "Oh, you haven't stayed here before. This isn't a hotel people come to to sleep. This is a party hotel. We're right in the entertainment district, and it stays loud until 2 a.m." Sir, this is a freaking Hampton Inn ... the Hilton equivalent of a Courtyard ... the kind of hotel business travelers stay in. You can't be serious. Sure enough, my windows on the quiet side were ratting until 3 a.m. ... on a Wednesday. I did not sleep. It was quite awful. Perhaps it's my fault for not realizing it was in the entertainment district. Perhaps there should be some sort of warning when booking through the Hilton site that this isn't a place Hampton Inn frequenters should visit. Perhaps easily accessible reviews on the Hilton site could have avoided such a sleepless night. I usually stay at Hilton properties except for when I come to Raleigh because there are none downtown, so I always stay at Marriott. I wanted to continue this time to build my Hilton points so I decided to stay in the closest Hilton property to downtown. Never again. I'll stick with Marriott when I come to Raleigh for work. I am sure it is a fun place to stay if you're in town for a fun night out -- and more power to you. But if you are the type of person who usually stays at a Hampton Inn, avoid this one.
