Would have been a great stop but only opened til 3pm. Got there at 3:15. No go. Did go to cemetery 1/10 mile away.

A great little museum with an impressive collection of artifacts and a very knowledgeable curator. Well worth the drive to visit.

Wonderful museum with very knowledgeable staff. Our 11 year-old loved it. Very good signs along the road showing where different parts of the battle took place. This made for a really nice 1/2 day trip from Raleigh.

Well preserved battlefield and historic structures of the era. The museum is worth visiting with exhibits of relics from the Civil War.

Search on Google for Historical civil war places, and you're been surprised how many you have around ! I Drive there from Florida and it's worth the trip. Here are a video that I made from : https://youtu.be/h8gYjCtRgVM

What is the admission fee?

As others will gave identified, admission is free. The best thing to do when in the area is to visit Averasboro, then visit Bentonville. Then, visit the Fort Fisher site. The three are connected and will put the regional strategic picture in perspective.

How much time would be needed to take in the battlefield and all of the signage at a leisurely pace?

I'd say half a day would suffice for everything... maybe more if you go into the museum.

Can you walk the battlefield even after the museum is closed? I don’t mean after hours, but during the day just to pull off the road and see a Historic Civil War Battleground? Thanks!

Yes it's a very small battlefield and visitors center. There are placards at important stops around the battlefield. They are all along the road. If you can stop when the visitor center is open, try to because it's run by supporters of the battlefield. No federal or state funding. They do a awesome job of interpreting the battle.
