Come for the beautiful murals! Personally, I would not come to spend time in the park, but to see the vibrant and interesting murals depicting stories and messages about the Mexican culture.

So glad we got to stop here on my last visit to San Diego. We visited on weekday morning, very quiet vibe to view the very interesting, sad, beautiful, and thought provoking murals.

All I can say is wow! The art work is amazing! You can see how proud the artists are of their heritage, their culture, their people. Just absolutely stunning!

If you don't know the history, just google the history of this park. Learning WHY it was created, THEN looking at all the artwork, makes the experience all the more beautiful. Really cool space and awesome story. May it continue to inspire those who feel overlooked by government to keep fighting and never give up.

You don't need one. You should read in the Web about the history of it, there are a lot of colorful paintings.
The land was given to the people. Originally promised to them as a park decades ago, the promise had to be enforced by community occupation of the land in 1970. The park as we know it today is a beautiful multicultural space with beautiful art depicting the history of the people, their mythology, and the history of the park itself.
