Cool place doing great work for some beautiful birds. You can tell they are haply and loved. It's not a huge place but it's worth a trip. Just don't go during peak fair hours unless you give yourself extra time to make your appointment.

Diane was so very sweet, welcoming, professional and very knowledgeable about birds, she definitely loves all of the birds and animals here at FREE FLIGHT. She made us feel so comfortable and we will definitely come back to visit this amazing place!

You can tell how much the staff loves & puts into these birds just by how well maintained & talkative they are out & inside of their cages. All birds definitely had their own personality’s. I was more than willing to pay for the year pass to come visit these beauties more often than we probably should, & spend my money here instead of Sea world or the SD zoo. (Sorry, not sorry). This place & birds deserve all the support it can take. I would love to volunteer & I plan on adopting one. I was brought here for our 7th year anniversary & I couldn’t have been happier to spend it with these majestic creatures. We spent 2 hours here & it was well worth the money. Come say hello to these feathered friends as they love to talk, sing, eat & dance with you, they are welcoming & loving to your presence. -Much love

My family and I were visiting the San Diego area and found this place off Atlas Obscura. It was fabulous and fun. We spent an hour feeding the various parrots and they all have such individual personalities, and always saying “hello!” The manager was very informative and helpful in giving us a short tour of the parrots on their perches. Definitely go if you are in Del Mar!

Yes but keep in mind this is a sanctuary and they only want the best rehoming situations for these special babies. Their adoption process is very specific and lengthy. Good luck!
Hi there, Admission is $7/adult, $3/children (ages 3-12), and FREE for children 2 and under. Thank you for supporting our mission to shelter and educate about companion parrots in need - we look forward to your visit! - Free Flight
Yes, you just need to inquire
You can make a reservation online or at the door before going in, but technically yes.
Hi there, If you have a parrot you are looking to rehome, you can visit the Services page on our website and read the section about our companion bird relinquishment program. Then, click the link at the bottom to fill out a contact form about your situation and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Warm regards, Free Flight
I dont have a parrot, I would like one and take it with me to the place I am moving to. Is it doable?
They do, but to get one, you will have to set either a deposit or adopt it but you wont be able to take it home as a baby
We do not have any owls. Free Flight is specifically a sanctuary for parrots (which includes macaws, cockatoos, Amazon parrots, and more) who were relinquished to us by their former owners. We would love for you to come visit and meet the flock! Cheers, Free Flight
Yes, she missed you
I believe the adoption fee is based on each birds individual history (medical needs & such)
Parking out front is free. However, if you were to find all of the spaces taken, I would actually recommend the paid parking in the dirt lot for Vidwpoint Brewery right across the way. That way you can walk over to spend time with the awesome birds at Free Flight, then head over to Viewpoint afterwards for some beer & great food. That's a win/win right there.

Freeflight does boarding. As mentioned, you have to have a recent blood and feces test on file with them before you can board there. Freeflight has agreements with Del Mar bird and animal hospital so you can drop off your bird at the hospital, have it checked out, and Freeflight will board them then. As for a visit, if you have the proper documentation, they would likely allow it. Best to call ahead, the staff is great, and will work with you.
There are some parrots available for adoption. You can see them on their website. The adoption process whoever can take several months to make sure there's a good fit between humans and bird
We are at capacity with relinquished pet parrots.
