This well known 5mi loop is a great workout. All the trails are well marked and heavily used. Regular tennis shoes will provide most of the traction you will need. The hours the gates are open vary depending on season, staying open longer during the summer. There are signs to watch out for mountain lions, but I haven't heard of any sightings in years. Why you have to yell and shout a telephone number to a mountain lion I have no idea. Also, the sign doesn't say what name to yell at the mountain lion to call for. Do mountain lions even have cell phones? And what kind of reception do they even get in these mountains? Anyway, I have seen deer here, often in the grass, between the chaparral, and even crossing the road. Some snakes here and there, and while there may be rattlesnakes, I've never seen one in the several years of visiting the trail. If you wish to leave the loop, there are a lot of side trails that will add to mileage. I've easily done over 9mi with very little repeat sections. You may want better traction on the less traveled paths. The biggest drawback in my opinion is the cost of parking. At $7 for 4hrs, the city of Claremont has made coming here more of a luxury than just a workout space.
Priss !
My favorite place for hiking Claremont hills when you get to the top we can see the beautiful views love it

Good trails that can go from 3 to even almost 10 miles. Definitely recommend. Good for families as well.

It has a good hiking trail, parking is 7dls for about 4 hours. Going up is 2 1/2 miles and there's signs that tell you every half mile how far you have walk so going up and coming down is a total of 5 miles but honestly it doesn't feel that bad, at the top there's benches to rest for a little and take pictures of the nice view.

Claremont residents can used for free??? Or they still have to pay too
They are open 7 days until 4pm I think. There are signs that will tell you until when in the parking lot.
It's a 5 mile loop so it obviously depends on your pace as to how long it takes. It can also depend on which direction you choose to climb the trail. I personally feel going up the Cobal path is more challenging than going up the Burbank trail. Where the Burbank side starts to climb immediately, there are fewer really steep parts and there are plenty of switchback. Starting on the Cobal, you will walk for 3/4 of a mile with a slight incline before the path really starts to climb. With less distance to cover the same increase in elevation, coupled with fewer switchbacks, the Cobal path is a more challenging route.
Yes. Close 8:30pm
Plenty of parking ... an upper and lower section. 6:30 AM -7:00 PM
Yes! Dogs are welcome. The loop is 5 miles so just make sure to bring water for them as well as dog waste bags to keep the trail clean.
Yes.
According to the website it is open
You have to wear a mask when you're around other people on the trail.
No. It will be closed until at least Friday. City is paranoid about the heat.
I believe its 7 bucks
I dont see why it would not be open om Sunday. Parking is $7 on the weekends.
Watch for streets that requires permits
No. You just have to pay for parking, which are in 4 hour increments. $5 during the week and $7 on weekends
I need somewhere to hike/exercise even in the rain.
The hours vary but unless it is very hot the trails are open. Check the site for hours.
It's technically a "loop." So it's 5 miles for the entire trail. There are mile markers along the way that will make it easy to track progress.
Is it good, for distraction and fun
Google Claremont Hills Wilderness Park to see the status in the web site. So far it says that it's open. The park hours are posted too.
Depends on the stroller. If you have a "jogger" type stroller with pneumatic wheels you will be fine. A hard wheel type stroller would be both tough to push and a very rough ride. Not that it can't be done, it is a dirt packed fire road type trail, but it would make for an interesting journey for both the "driver" and the passenger.
They close it so often on hot/windy days, they will only close on rainy days when flooding is a threat.
No the ranger opens the parking lot
Yes, they're in the main parking lot(closest to the trail). Then, you'll find two along the trail.
Just walking, like two hours more or less but if you run down the hill, is gonna take less time.
That's correct the meter will automatically charge it credit.
The parking meters only take cards doesn't matter if it's debit or credit it always charges credit
Thank you good to:me
