The store appeared well stocked with a variety of items. However, we were so saddened to see the overall living conditions of the parrots. The manager did appear receptive to addressing the quantities of caked-on poop on the lower perches and toys, noting that it was missed with the daily cage cleaning. Besides the poop, there were other concerns. The cages were “homemade” and therefore: 1. could not be sufficiently cleaned (evidenced by the grim on the bottom three sides and the dander/feathers on the back cage wall), 2. provided the conure with unsafe wire spacing along the front, 3. allowed the Amazon to chew the wood and hardware cloth along the top (galvanized metal is poisonous to birds!!!). In addition, the Amazon lacked sufficient quality and quantity of big bird toys for stimulation. The Amazon’s cage space was too small. The conure’s sleeping tent was caked with dust and half chewed. The conure also lacked quality and quantity of toys. There were no windows anywhere near the birds. Yet, it should be noted that both parrots had the basics: food and clean water (although the food quality was an inadequate seed based product). Both shared an infrared heat lamp. Both birds appeared healthy with full intact plumage. This store advertises and sells pet products. How about investing a bit more in the parrots, STARTING with new appropriate sized metal cages on wheels that are easier to clean and safe, as well some fun stimulating toys?
