We got there Saturday at noon and luckily there were two spots available. There are 5 designated campsites with picnic tables and a fire pit. No trees and can be very windy at times. You have to haul your camping-gear to your site. Bathrooms are typical pits and there is no water available. Bring toilet paper because of how popular the hiking area is. I would highly recommend a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle.

This is an amazing place to camp and hike. If you cant go to the top of the 14k then go as far as you can and enjoy the beautiful views. The sunset was amazing.

Park early. Climb hard. A great place to start a great hike. Lot is full but about 06:30. So get there soon.

Three weeks ago, it was $15, cash only.
A Subaru SUV should be able to make it - we took a Toyota RAV4 and it made it just fine. There are only 5-6 actual campsites. Arriving at 4am on a weekday a few weeks ago, all the spots were taken. I believe camping along the road is not allowed, neither is car camping at the standard trailhead parking spots, although it's hard to tell how that is enforced. We arrive at 4am to hike, and there were still parking spots, but started filling up quickly as we started our hike.
You can book ahead of time...I made a reservation 6 months ago for last weekend. We didn't get there until 7pm and it was full then...that was a weekend though.
