This trail is intense, but watch the weather. There is no shade, just like many trails in San Diego county. Most of the really tough stuff is in the back quarter. Highly recommend running the trail, but bring tons of water.

If you get there early, there are a couple of parking spots on the road since the lot opens at 8. The trail is a path which I'm usually not a fan of as I like more native hikes but the elevation changes were something I really enjoyed so it was a good day

Hardest hike in San Diego. Its like going up hills both ways. Stay hydrated. Trails are rough. Views are amazing!

This is a beautiful hike but pretty difficult. It's quite steep most of the way up. I recommend doing this hike in the winter time when it's greener and the weather is cooler. And I recommend getting an early start. Not sure I would do this hike again as a casual hiker but if you're really into hiking this is a good one to do.

The elevation gain of El Cajon peak will be close to 4000 feet. Mostly because of the up and down nature of the trail.
