I can't say enough about the United Way. They help with taxes, and people who need help with rent or utilities. Wonderful organization. Taxes are done for free

I wanted to share my experience with this organization, for the sake of transparency. I approached this organization two years ago seeking a fiscal sponsorship for my healing arts project. I am currently sponsored with an organization out of New York but haven't had any luck receiving grants because the organization is not local. I had my first meeting with two women who seemed genuinely interested and excited about my project to increase access to the arts in Shasta County, the CEO was supposed to be there, but didn't show up due to another meeting I was told. I came back at a few weeks later to pitch my project to him personally and was advised had I had an idea for helping animals he would be able to help us out no problem, but healing arts for kids and teens didn't fit their mission. I was confused and advised the importance of art in mental and physical health, he asked I write a full proposal and include my references, and that he would propose it to the board. I dedicated a lot of time to building this proposal and gathering all the data for him and delivered it. I followed up a few times to make sure it was received and the women I spoke with said it had been. I thought it would surely be accepted. Unfortunately for me, I stopped in to speak to the CEO the day after the meeting was said to happen. He said to me that he didn't bring it up at the board meeting and that he already advised me that he didn't think it was a good fit for them. I was so frustrated that I started crying right there, I couldn't believe how I was treated and disregarded by this organization. It was terribly embarrassing and I just wouldn't wish an experience like this on anyone else, especially people who are working selflessly to make our community a better place. Blessings.
