Every year we buy specialty strawberries when available from Fujii Farms. In fact, we have a reminder annually to call and check if they're ready yet. Hoods and Shuksans are amazingly sweet, full-flavored and make awesome freezer jam for us to enjoy year-round.

Purchased berries this morning. Top berries were beautiful. Large Red and juicy. The next level of berries were small, orange/white in color. Bottom was dirty, moldy and even found a slug. At $33 a flat...beware. maybe a recei ed yesterday picking ???

If you like moldy berries! They ran out of hoods, so I was convinced to buy a flat of the "other strawberries", which apparently "last longer". It was cleaver how the yellow canopy over their tent hides the mold color on their berries. At 8 months pregnant she wanted me to dig through the mold and prove it! She tried to tell me it was dirt at first, until I walked her out of the canopy and clearly pulled out at least 15 green/black moldy berries. I had to literally bring her into the sunlight and show her the moldy berries before she agreed to refund my money, until then she just wanted to argue like I didn't know the difference between dirt and mold. Black rotting + fuzzy green all over = mold! Pathetic customer service. No wonder the locals around here advise against visiting their stands. Also bought a flat of the raspberries which are not moldy, but also have zero flavor! It was a loose-loose for us even with a partial refund. I was glad I wasn't feeling so hot today and didn't try 1 or 2 before I bought them like most people usually do, it would have been impossible to see if you were eating mold or not under their cleverly dim colored canopy. BEWARE!
