On the many trips to San Diego, this was our first visit to the national monument. The park area itself is on the end of the peninsula and offers some great views of the city and surrounding area. There are only 2 main trails from the visitor center. One is a loop that leads up to the light house and the other heads down to the coast. The lighthouse seems to be well cared for. The rooms inside were set up as if a lighthouse keeper was living there in the early 1900s. The trail from the light house loops to see some old bunkers and overlook of a kelp forest. There is a tide pool area that is a separate road from the main gate. Just make sure to check that your trip to these is during low tide.

We enjoyed our morning at this monument. The visitor center has a lot of information about the interesting history, including several short movies. There is an old lighthouse which has artifacts, and a nice 2-3 mile trail that leads to beautiful scenery and views of San Diego, including Coronado Island. We were able to see planes taking off from the naval base, as well as naval ships.

Probably some of the best views of San Diego. You can watch planes coming and going at the airport and airbase, and see the boats and ships coming and going from a high vantage point. The monument and light house stories are interesting part of history, but I think my favourite part was driving down to the new lighthouse area and checking out the tide pools and cliffs. There was even a sailboat that been breached and sent ashore at some point. Please just be careful of the cliff edges, there are no guardrails and I'm not sure I would be as trusting as some of the ground beneath them.

Amazing place close to San Diego. Amazing views of the city, ocean, coast, and more. Really nice staff. The bay side trail was awesome and only 2 miles. Perfect for a half day visit. It was 20 dollars to get in. Would love to go back to try other trails and spend more time in the museum.

Yes. It is a National Park. Beautiful. And the cemetary is very moving. Great day.
You didn't need a reservation in the pre Covid day's. But I was there about a month ago, and the light house was closed to inside tours. You can call them to inquire about the current status.
Yes, Since it is considered under a National Park. There is an entry fee of 20$ per private vehicle. You can use National Park annual passes/any other passes as well. Parking is free
$20 but that gives u access for a week to return. I liked it better than sunset cliffs bc less busy. Be sure to ck out low tide tmings to catch tide pools. Also park closes at 4:30. I went mid august and low tide was 3:25

Is it open today with the end of the shutdown and how do i get the answer ? 1
I believe they close at 5pm. I suggest Sunset Cliffs for sunset.
These are the rules listed on the park website, in a nutshell. More specific information can be found there if you have further questions: 1. Collecting of any natural organism, living or dead, and shells and rocks is prohibited 2. Tide pool animals should be touched as lightly as touching your eyeball 3. No organism attached to a surface should be removed by force 4. Any animal moving away or hiding should not be pursued or picked up 5. Rocks should not be moved and left in their original orientation 6. Rocks should not be thrown in any area 7. Containers such as buckets, cups or any scrapping, probing or prying are prohibited
I think it is, most national parks/monuments never close. Normal closing hours are either 4 or 5pm though, i cant remember exactly.
The Park Rangers will lock the entrance gate. To make sure that no one is there after hours.
Yes
No picnic tales but have plenty of benches like in a park and you should be able to enjoy the views whilst having a picnic....sunset cliffs is better spot for picnic just need to carry a picnic blanket
Not sure. I would say no but there are several staff located all over that you can verify that info.
Open until 5pm
Yes, during the hours they are open
I saw people walking down that way yesterday, but I don't know if it's entirely open. Their website doesn't mention it being closed and you can go to their site and call the rangers if you have concerns.
Yes it will be but there is certain areas that are closed sometimes.
Only on the tide pool trail: https://www.nps.gov/cabr/planyourvisit/pet-restrictions.htm
Wheelchairs are available to use by any individual who needs help getting around the park. Vehicles that have a disabled parking pass are also allowed to drive up and park next to the lighthouse where there are two disabled parking spots.
It's a national park, so there is a gate. You buy your pass at the gate.
yes, beautiful drive there and there is a turn around if you don't want to actually pay and go into the fee area.
If they charge 20 per car or if you go by bike or motorcycle it is per person I think 15dlls per person, it is better to go by car 👍
Say again..
Park is open daily from 9am to 5pm.
$15/20 car per single day, service member & NATIONAL Park Card Holder membership are FREE..
No, but the park is very walkable. However, getting to the tidepools from the visitor center would be strenuous.
Yes. Today is a super low tide as well. Should be great viewing! I think it starts after 1.
There is 2 or 3 mile trail that you could bring dogs. Leave them in a car while you take 15 minutes at the center and then walk with them on the trail.
I think you can do it
Yes, u can
The best and safe way to know is by calling the park office. They will give you the right answer.
Over 62? Pay $80 for lifetime access to all national parks. Can pay at gate for your card and it covers all in your car. Otherwise $10 gets you all in car access.
Call park. Didn't go today.
