Always a long line and it's hit or miss if the ranger knows anything about current conditions. Wish they allowed more permits online reservable, esp for locals who frequent the park often and know the rules. The park itself is truly amazing though. 5 stars on that.

Extremely helpful staff! This is the spot to go to for backcountry permit information. They also sell some necessities in case you forgot something (e.g. MREs, water purification tablets) and books/park souvenirs.

Such an amazing experience. Even with the wildfires it is unreal that this is a “free” national park! Recommending to everyone!

This is one of the nicer visitor centers I have visited. The people are very friendly. There are good exhibits showing the sort of wildlife to be found in the area. They have a nice shop.

plan on day hiking various north cascade areas mid august. Where are the black flies less troublesome, and what areas should we avoid?

We only encountered flies at Devil's Junction, the mosquitoes were much worse pretty much everywhere on the East Bank trail. Just bring DEET and you should be good to go!

Is there any information if Ross Lake water levels will be filled up for camping this year. Thanks

I think the best answer to your question would be to call the North Cascades National Park Ranger Station and ask if they have any information. Normally it is full before Memorial Weekend every year.
