This little Indian Creek conservation area is a primitive camp. It's first come first serve spots. You could put a little RV on a spot. There is a small creek crossing. I was out during a rainy weekend. I got stuck at camp because water was to high to cross. Hunting is by permit. I just went out there last summer and camp was closed off. Haven't been out recently to see if they have reopened. Is a great little hide away if it is tho.
Hey @Mandy Carman! Not sure how far this would be for you. I think it's definitely worth the drive though. Bar K Wrangler Horse Camp in Chadwick, MO is open year round and is free. Maps will take you to the first campsite which is right off the road. Once you turn onto the road, keep going straight, it's gravel and steep so drive slow going down, there is a campsite on the first right and then the last campsite is at the bottom. The rest of the trails are for horses or walkers. Then there is Paddy Creek Recreation Area. I'm not sure exact location however it is about midway between Springfield, MO and St Louis. Closer to Springfield. Just be mindful of the weather as there is a creek that runs through there can flood the bridgeway. It's free too. Finally, there is an app called Free Roam and it's a directory of all sorts of campgrounds free and paid. (I don't own the app nor will I receive anything if you choose to download. It's free.) 🙂
Mark twain national has some primitive camping areas off hwy 8 in Berryman. Just be cautious of private properties 🙂
Thank you Angel Taylor for offering your property to stay on. My family is also looking to move to this area. Would want to camp and see how we like the area first. We are located in AZ, how do you like living in Missouri?
