It's an Italian tradition, normally in a home setting. They tried to incorporate this idea as a business model. Everyone shares like a home meal.
Yes, they encourage you to share. A small portion usually will feed @ 3 people, a large will usually feed 6-8. We will get 3 - 4 dishes and all share them. Have always had to get a to go box.

Yes family style. Not great for single diners. Very limited on smaller portions and sides. No carry out containers for coffee and soft drinks.
