You don't need a reservation, but it is good to have one.
Need, no. But i would highly advise it depending on the day you're going. Plus it looks really good to your date when you arrive to had taken the time to call ahead. ;)
Reservations are not required, but depending on the time and day, reservations are highly recommended, especially for a group of more than four people. They are quite busy at popular times, and I've had to wait up to 30 minutes even WITH a reservation.
