To be clear, Rick is talking about the state park. Grandfather Campground is different from the state park and is privately owned on the back side of the mountain on hwy 105. They have plenty of tent campsites.
Good job Rick
Yes there are plenty of campsites.
Back in the day we would camp without issue but I think they no longer allow, in fact they want you out of the state park by sunset. Foscoe campground is close by but not an off the beaten path campground. Has amenities but nice and quiet with some spots on the river. Now if you want to go off the grid type camping go to Linville Falls and drive up to and past overlook observation area. Place is amazing but deep in middle of nowhere. Hope this helps
