Our tree is stunning truly beautiful but she's stop drinking water after 3 days! Everything I researched says don't drill a hole in the trunk...do I need to re-cut the trunk?

I will have my husband take a closer look at the stand to make sure there is space before we re-cut thank-you!

Hi Melissa, Sorry to hear that your tree has gone on a hunger strike. Most trees will have the greatest uptake of water occur within the first few days and slow down after that. Usually if a tree refuses to drink water from the very beginning, it is a result of not putting a fresh cut on the tree before placing it in water. So maybe your tree has not stopped drinking, but is just drinking more slowly? Another possibility is that maybe the base of the tree is pressing too firmly against the bottom of the tree stand, creating a seal, so water is unable to reach the trunk?? As to drilling a hole in the trunk, I don't think that would help. (When we drill a tree for people, it is not to aid in water absorption. It is because a specific type of stand uses the drilled hole to support the tree.) While it probably isn't your first choice, putting a fresh cut on the tree might be your best option! Hope this helps! If we stumble upon any other solutions, we will post again.
