No but they'll make you get one within 30 days of you registering your vehicle so you might as well try to get it done all once. Trust me you don't want to make 2 trips to the DMV
As stated, if you're planning on staying you might as well get both you & you vehicle licensed at the same time to keep it simple!
And make sure to make an appointment otherwise you'll be there for hours; go to DMVNV.COM Also, Margaret, if your vehicle is from out of state and it's never been registered in NV, you must bring your vehicle to get a VIN inspection at the DMV, bring the vehicle plates and current out of state registration, NV insurance and NV smog.
The correct precise answer is NO. Not sure who the THEY is but it isn't the DMV. The law states you need to have NV ID if you're here +30 days. The DMV is not the overseer. That's between you and law enforcement should you come in contact with them. I was a resident for 2 years before I switched, but that's just me
