I started snapdragons indoors in a tray using seed starter mix. They came up right on schedule but are growing tall and very spindly. The stems are but a hair thick an d only 2 very small leaves. What is going on?

You need more light for them

Hollie, Thank you for reaching out! It sounds like your plants are stretching for light; supplemental lighting may be needed. Some gardeners will try to grow utilizing a window for natural light; unfortunately, this is generally not enough light for starting seeds. For seed-starting indoors, a fluorescent grow light will help to give your seedlings a great start, light stands (homemade or purchased) make this an easy option. Once the seeds germinate, it is ideal that the light source be a few inches above the tops of the plants. If you have a light stand, for now lower your lights or raise your plants to where they are closer to the lights. Another cause of stretching is growing on temperatures that exceed that genera’s preference. Snapdragons prefer cooler growing on temperatures, Day Temp: 60-70°F Night Temp: 50-55°F. Adjusting for this would also help the plants. We hope this helps! Let us know if you have further questions!
