He does not use it. I would advise not to use it as it can affect the skin and making it difficult to tattoo.
It was my first time getting a tattoo there but Jason was so amazing that I didn't need anything for pain. It had some stinging/burning sensation but nothing horrible. Had no pain once it was actually over. Hope that helps.
