Hi, pardon my delay, as you can tell this is a complicated question. Each problem needs to be looked at individually. Ankle surgery can involve soft-tissue and/or can involve bone. Each one can take a varied amount of time post-operatively and depends on the healing potential of the patient. Specifics would be best to be discussed in the office with an appointment and we would be happy to explain anything with more specifics. John
I had my achilles tendon replaced after having several tears in it. I was off my foot for six weeks. No real weight bearing on it. After the cast they put me in a big boot and then I was allowed minimal weight on it for at least another two weeks. I use the boot and Walker. Was able to hop around. You can still get around and do a lot without putting weight on it. And the more time you can spend not walking on the foot the better. Once I was allowed to walk it was fine.
Depends on what exactly your doing. I had to get surgery to repair my broken ligaments and recovery took me 6 weeks. No weight or any pressure was to be put on the ankle.
