Can mint be planted now, to get rid of spiders?

You can plant the seeds now and they would come up in the spring but they wouldn't grow during the winter,mint goes dormant during the winter in this area. I've heard the rumor that peppermint dissuades arachnoids but I'm pretty sure it's never been proven it might be a wives tale don't know. You could grow it inside though in a sunny window
