There weren't when I went but I didn't go the weekend before or days before the fourth. Under normal circumstances there are no more police around then anywhere else but they would likely be out in abundance over the whole weekend
It is no longer illegal to transport fireworks in the state of NJ. As long as you aren't lighting them in front of the police, they shouldn't have an issue.
Last 2 times I went never saw a cop....not like it used to be.
