Great place for picnics. We tossed out a blanket and had lunch. Bugs? Didn't bother us but we did encounter while trail walking.
There are a lot of picnic tables; some in the open, some under trees, and some in pavilions you can reserve. I think some if them have charcoal grills near them. It's a great place to picnic and enjoy the outdoors.
Yes u can bring food. There are eating areas in the park. Bring big spray.

Yes, there are large ants everywhere. That's my only con. I got bite on my foot by one and it left a scar. The park is still nice, but bring bug spray or wear clothes and shoes that will cover you.
Yes, and in fact I've seen folks have picnics at their campsites. As for the bugs, there's no more than the normal outdoor experience.
