No, not really. I know they tell you to go to the center of the rink if you can't skate and/or need to practice but I'm telling you from experience this is not a good idea because the skaters fly by you and use the center of the rink to practice jumps, slides, stops, backwards skate,etc. The best idea is to go on a slow night like Thursday and practice around the areas where the seats are.
The center of the rink is separated off with lines and cones for beginners of all ages.
