Hi Jesse.. No they are not. My mother has been a witness for over 45 years. They are just believe in the Bible product and live that way. Similar to the way Jewish and Amish people live a certain life style. Only difference is they like to try and teach others the bibles prophecy as well, just a Jesus did when he was alive and taught his disciples the way to be Christian. The Bible foretells the end of the system of things due to man's many short commings.. and we should live our lives to serve God.. not our selfish lustful ways. It takes true self control to be a witness and not fall short and be misled by the worldly ways of Satan.. I personally look up to them, because I'm not strong enough myself.. So no.. there not a doomsday cult.. As the system of things continues to get worse.. as fortold.. many will wish they'd paid a bit more attention and not disliked others just because they believe something different .. Stop by any kingdom hall and they will welcome you with open arms..
I'm not totally sure of characteristics of doomsday cults. But I don't think they are. Please, go to their website, www.jw.org and check out. The website is in over 1000 languages. They're seen at public places and go to people's homes everywhere.
