Do we need to book in advance if we would like to train on any of the soccer fields? Nothing professional. Just a few friends trying to get some exercise :)

The leagues have permits and preference... But if its off hours and there's nothing scheduled, your are welcome if you live in middlesex county. If you are a league of your own, you will need to get permits

I don't think so. We've gone to the baseball fields to just hit balls around. I guess it depends on if it's being used.
