Sandra, I have not yet encountered the need for a specialist, but I do know if that need arises, they REMAIN an integral part of your care. They share information with the specialist and communicate with them as well on your behalf. I know it is a problem without insurance but I would go to DPC first, have a complete physical and lab work -in-house, results at your same visit, and discuss your concerns with your doctor. My initial visit when I joined was an hour and that was not wait time. That was actual time with the doctor. At no time did I feel rushed. This place is a godsend. My son became very ill, I had to bring him in on a Saturday, the doctor met me there, he needed two IV bags, labwork, etc and there was no charge because it was all included in his monthly dues of $125. You can't get a deal like that anywhere. It will be the best decision you can make for your health!
They can refer you to specialists that have better rates for people that are cash pay with no insurance.
They refer you out with no insurance that would be a problem one of my specialists charged Medicare 800 for the greet and meet first time patient..I don't know your story but without insurance the only place that I would suggest is a county hospital they have outpatient clinics and resources to help you..
