You can submit a request on their website and will get an estimate from them immediately. If you are happy with that price, you make an appointment. If not, you don't have to. I recently sold my '05 Ford. I didn't get too much but I was happy that they bought it. I think I got slightly more than a trade-in at the dealer. Keep in mind that they do have look at before their final offer but you are not obligated to sell it if you are not happy with their final answer. I felt no pressure to sell.

They will usually go by book value. But a 04 doesn't have much resale value and they wont get much for it so they wont offer much.

Hi Caroline. We would need to know more about the vehicle such as the model (an F150 is worth more than a Focus for example), the mileage and overall condition. A bad transmission is going to be an issue as replacing or rebuilding a transmission is expensive. On a 16 year old car, it may not be cost-effective to do the work, in which case it may be better for you to sell to a local junkyard who can pick up for cash and strip the vehicle for parts. If you give us a call with some more information, we'll be happy to give you an honest perspective on value to help you decide next steps.
