When we first got there we setup our tent on the campgrounds and then went hiking, so I believe this is pretty common
If you are camping yes you leave it up until you are ready to leave

The camp site is yours like renting a piece of ground til your time is up. The state parks are a wonderful resource & so much beauty. Brown County such a great park!
