I've been wondering since I moved here not long ago....is this where the bells come from that ring 6 times, then 9 times, then 27 times at 6am? If so, then may I please ask why?

Angela Pratt, the Angelus is a Catholic devotion to the Incarnation of Jesus with Hail Mary, which are said at morning, noon and evening, and the bells are ringing for the Angelus, and for the hour.

I'm sorry, I'm not of the Catholic faith - what is the Angelus, please?

Yes. At 6am, noon, and 6pm, the bells ring for the hour and then for the Angelus.
