1. Corporate sells you the gift card. 2. Only company stores receive the proceeds of gift cards. 3. The local store (if they are a franchise holder) do not get paid. Thus, they'd be providing a meal that someone else gets paid for.
Independently owned franchises don't always honor coupons or gift cards. Not honoring gift cards is in my opinion is not a sound business practice.
