Blanks could be either pollination misses (most likely silk damage from heat or insect cutting) or from young kernel abortion ( again from a stress like heat). If they are nearer the tip end, then more likely abortion (short silks mean easier polination but position starves moisture and sheath protection) nearer the base might be polination from a cut silk (later planting this year gave more time for worm stages??? Wind pollinates corn. God designed North America without honey bees.
