You can apply for a visa online or when you arrive in Turkey at the airport. It may be cheaper to purchase it there. Don't listen to others who say it isn't safe. People there don't have guns for the mist part and crime is much lower than in thw U.S. If you don't stir things up or look for trouble you'll be fine. Their rule of law is certainly problematic for journalists and others rightly or wrongly accused of the small 2016 military coup.
U need to get an appointment from their website. Turkey is not a secure place even for its own citizen. That is why u can worry for your own life.
