I've always taken my Hachi with me into every Home Depot. But, he is very trained, both for my protection and to be "at work" and behave in public. I have seen some people let their dog hike its leg, or leave their poop, which is as poor parenting as kids running amuck in "Marts". And, I've seen them ask people with an out of control dog to leave. It's a courtesy that they don't have to extend. They are all pretty cool with it so long as the dog is behaved and trained.
They won't kick you out but remember that this is a hardware store and it wasn't ergonomically designed for dogs.
