When a landlord desires to evict a tenant, the first step in the process is a notice to vacate. Unless otherwise stipulated in the lease, the notice must be done in writing. It is not a requirement for the notice to be sent via certified mail; however, the suggestion is made as it provides a proof of mailing.
If you are trying to evict them, then a 10 day notice to vacate the property.
