Oddly, probably better if you buy it for yourself, then gift it to her. If you let them know that you're buying a firearm for another person, that could easily be construed as a straw purchase- which Is a felony. Just to be clear, it's legal to purchase a gun as a gift, you just can't take money for it (resell).
Yeah I definitely agree with the other guy who said that you should be extremely accurate if you decide to share your intentions with the sales people. Ultimately I would just never discuss anything like that with them. It's no one's business what you plan on doing with the firearm you legally purchase. But if you do decide to talk about what you will be doing with it then you definitely need to be clear and let them know that you will be GIFTING the firearm to your spouse. Otherwise you will probably run into the same situation everywhere you attempt to purchase a firearm.
Dude take a fire arm class. You need to know those things. The class will teach you many things you need to know.
