I’m of the preference having a pistol with a reputable light on it, most things that go bump in the night are your children so being able to identify things is important plus if you needed to scoop up a child while still on the defensive is easier with a pistol than a shotgun or rifle, my 2 cents you can’t go wrong with a Glock 19 and an Inforce APL light and good ammunition like federal HST or the tried and trusted Speer Gold dot for $600 or so

5280 is my favorite gun store. Home defense. Can't go wrong with a 12 guage.

The people there will be more than willing to listen... They are experts in the field of personal defense.. yes try out the different options, see what feels comfortable. Once purchased, keep it simple, practice with the weapon so as to build up your confidence.. Always know where you have it , and most of all, use your head and keep it locked up in a safe place. Good luck!

Take a self defense and tactical fighting class before you buy a gun. as a gun owner and a student of data, if you don't have enough training to properly use a gun and make the right decisions, 90% of the time it won't end well for you. Typically the sound of an unloaded shotgun being cycled is enough to scare off most burglars. Before you start shooting at people, remember that you are responsible for that bullet and everything that it does until it stops. Research will show you that it's rare that a gun is better defense than a dog, an alarm system, and other methods of home defense.

I am looking to take a certification course to receive my conceal carry permit in the county of Adams, Colorado. Is there such course I can take at this range? If so how much does it cost? And will it meet the satisfaction for the course requirement? Thank you.

Hopefully you got answers, practice and a decision on your first gun for personal and home defense. What did you get? If you haven't yet, and are still looking, I have 2 comments. If you'll ever carry it or move it to your car only, consider that two ends of spectrum. Your car is your castle and you can have it there just like home. If you never will carry it, then a good solid 1911 style body/frame and .45,.40 home defense rounds, are my suggestions. It feel like a lot of gun, but it's bulk makes you steadier. I like the idea of a light and laser for defense, too. My home gun is Taurus .40 cal pt101. It carries 14 rounds. Practice with it, and get familiar with it. If you ever think you'll carry it, concealed, then i think a smaller compact gun is better, but its not as substantial and can be less steady in a shooting situation. But carrying a full size gun under your garments is a lot and a burden. I tried, and have settled on a Taurus, or Glock compact, in 9 or 40 slim
